Music gifts for couples, by occasion
What to give a couple when the obvious gifts are for one of them or for the house: song prints by occasion — first anniversary, moving in, engagement, long distance, new parents — and which format suits each.

Couples are hard to buy for because the obvious gifts are either for one of them or for the house. A song works differently: it belongs to both of them and to nobody else, which is why it survives the first year of living together better than most objects do.
What follows is by occasion, because the occasion usually decides the format.
A first anniversary
Traditionally paper, which makes a print an almost too-convenient answer — and still the right one. The wedding song is the obvious subject; the song from the night they met is the better one if you want them to laugh before they get sentimental. The wedding and anniversary guide works through the timing and the sizing in detail.
A dating anniversary, not a wedding one
Couples who are not married often have more songs, not fewer, because nothing has been made official enough to fix one in place. Ask which song was playing on a specific night rather than which song is “theirs” — the second question produces a shrug, the first produces an answer.
Moving in together
The one occasion where the gift is genuinely for the wall rather than the drawer. A new place has empty rooms and no shared taste yet, so keep it calm and mid-sized rather than enormous, and let them decide where it goes. Framed is kinder here: nobody wants a trip to a framer during a move.
An engagement
Early, which is the advantage. A print given at the engagement is on the wall before the wedding, so it stops being a wedding object and starts being part of the house. The proposal song, or the song from the trip where it happened.
Long distance
Two prints of the same song, one for each place, is the version of this gift that actually says something. It is also the only situation where a scannable code earns its place on the design — the point is that both of them can play the same thing at once.
A couple who already have everything
The standard problem, and the reason personalized prints exist: the gift cannot be bought by anyone else because nobody else knows the song. If you do not know it either, ask one of them in advance rather than guessing — a couple gift is one of the few where asking does not spoil it, because the surprise is what you did with the answer.
New parents
Everything they are given is for the baby. A print of their song, not the baby’s song, lands differently in a house that has temporarily stopped being about the two of them. Keep it for a wall that is not the nursery.
Choosing the format
A couple gift usually wants to be readable: a lyric that a visitor understands without explanation does more in a shared room than an abstract design does. But if the song has no printable words, or the room is already busy, a waveform or a title-led design is the better shape. The full comparison is in song poster types compared.
Practical notes before you order
- Get the date right. Made to order, shipping within 3-5 business days, then 2-5 business days in the UK, 3-6 in the EU and 4-7 in the US. Three weeks before the occasion is comfortable.
- Answer the proof. A digital preview comes through for approval; if we hear nothing within 3 days we print the standard layout so the date holds.
- Framed or rolled. Framed arrives ready to hang in black, oak or white. Unframed ships rolled in a tube and lets them match their own frames.
- Size for their wall, not yours. If you have never seen the room, something mid-range is safer than something enormous — the hanging guide covers what fits where.
Start with the custom lyrics prints if you already have the song and the line, the featured prints for the ones we put at the front, or all prints to browse by room and style. Paper, sizes and delivery details are on the FAQ.
